Freelensing

I walked into this last-minute workshop led by the uber talented Anne Almasy not even knowing what “freelensing” was. I have the inability to embrace the art of relaxation, so I glanced at the calendar and noticed I had a few hours to spare. I signed up on a whim, and officially fill up my Saturday.

You can get a unique look from freelensing that mimics the effect of a tilt-shift lens, throwing a good portion of the image out of focus. When the technique was first explained to me, I was full of nerves because you have to take your lens off of your camera. I trip over my own two feet and am careless carrying a glass of water on a regular basis, so I was not at all comfortable with this situation. After 45 minutes of terrible blurry shots, a miracle happened and I was able to create these images.. I was graced with another miracle, and I didn’t drop my lens. I am equally proud of both.

Her recap of our freelensing workshop, plus a much better explanation of freelensing can be found here.

Thanks, Anne! These are literally the only ones in focus, so lots of practice ahead of me. Thank you for putting this together!
